Dopping with Super Glue and Accelerator
Some folks prefer to dop from the beginning, and some prefer to dop after grinding. For beginning students, it is probably a good idea to dop from the beginning.
Using super glue, drywall screw or nail, and a handle (cork or dowel):
- Make sure the stone is clean and dry:
- Put a drop of glue on the head of the screw.
- Spray the back of the stone with the accelerator.
- Stick the screw.
- Stick the screw head to the back of the stone & hold for 15 seconds.
- Put a line of super glue around the screw head where it meets the stone.
- Spray the accelerator and wait another 15 seconds.
At this point the stone should be firmly dopped to the screw/nail and you can insert it into the handle.
You can remove the stone from the screw/nail by soaking in acetone, or by heating the screw/nail with a flame about 1/4″ behind the stone until the glue melts.
